THE STORY OF BLACK SUN
Our indigenous print Black Sun was created to pay homage to the distinct pattern style of West African block printing.
Our team designed the cowrie shell print in Harlem, NY and worked with a group of artisans in Lagos, Nigeria to hand-weave, hand-dye & block print our original art onto their locally grown Funtua Cotton.
Culture, Heritage & Protection
The Black Sun print symbolizes protection, craftsmanship and artistic identity.
Our unique print is achieved through hand-block printing on organic cotton and hand-dipping the fabric in natural indigo dye many times to achieve its rich Black color. The fabric is then dried, folded and mallet beaten to soften.
Each blanket of Black Sun was pressed, cut and sewn in New York City & Los Angeles.
The result is a garment that carries both cultural heritage and everyday wearability.
